World Mental Health Day celebrated in Kabul

World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October every year, with
the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues
around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health.

KABUL: World Mental Health Day, in an official ceremony under the theme of ‘Mental health is a universal human right’ has been celebrated in the capital Kabul, the Ministry of Public Health said in a statement Tuesday. “Almost one billion people in the world are suffering from mental diseases, which makes it a major part of all diseases,” the statement said, adding a person loses his life due to the disease every 40 seconds across the world. The ministry has always been committed to providing mental health services to all Afghans, the statement quoted. According to the figures of the ministry more than two and a half million people have received mental health-related services through Afghanistan’s health system, especially primary healthcare facilities in 2022, the statement added. World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health. The Day provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide.
