Work on various water supply projects completed in Nangarhar

JALALABAD: Various water supply projects worth 109 million Afghani (some 1,288,888.48 U.S. dollars) have been implemented in the past months in the country’s eastern province of Nangarhar, the provincial Water and Energy Department said in a statement the other day. “The projects including a water dam, an irrigation canal length 735 meters, cleaning and repairing of 900 meters canal, construction of 12 kilometers road, 24 check dams, hundreds of meters retaining walls and small water reservoirs, with financial support of World Food Program (WFP) have been implemented in Roghano, Qatarghi and Mirji villages of the Rodat district of the province,” the statement said. More than 1409 people, including 130 women, have been provided with job opportunities, the statement quoted. Residents of the areas said that they were happy with the completion of the schemes and demanded implementation of more such schemes, the statement added. Meanwhile, the relevant officials said that they were trying to implement more such projects in order to prevent drought in cooperation with aid organizations in the province. The Kabul Times
