Work on construction of Qush Tipa mega agricultural canal started

KABUL: Work on construction of large agricultural and economic canal of Qush Tipa has started, spokesman of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Zabihullah Mujahid said as quoted by Bakhtar News Agency.
The IEA Spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, Chairman of the National Development Company Abdurrahman Attash, Head of Information and Culture of Balkh, Mawlavi Zabihullah Nurani and Head of Publication of the Ministry of Information and Culture, Abdul Haq Hammad attended a ceremony held in Balkh province, to inaugurate the construction of the dam of the great agricultural and economic canal, the agency said. The estimated budget is 6 billion Afghanis (some 67,920,000 U.S. dollars), according to the agency.
“The Qush Tipa canal is a major and vital project in the history of Afghanistan which will create a big change in the agricultural and production farms and the economic sector of the country,” said Mujahid as quoted by the agency.
More than 3,000 machineries will be working at one time and over 5,000 people will be provided with employment, once the project kicks off, Mujahid told the state-run agency.
According to the agency, Qush Tipa canal has three stages, the first is 108 kilometers long, which starts from the Amu River and reaches Dawlatabad district of the country’s northern Balkh province.
The second phase it has a length of kilometers, starting from Dawlatabad of Balkh and extending to Aqcha district of the neighboring Jawzjan province, ultimately, reaching Faryab province’s Andkhoy district, the agency quoted Mujahid as saying.
The third phase is the distribution of sub-canals on agricultural land, which will be completed in six years and the completion process of the first phase is expected would be done within one year and the remaining two phases would take five years to end.
The estimated budget is 6 billion Afghanis (some 67,920,000 U.S. dollars), said Mujahid adding it was the largest irrigation and agricultural project in the region, all of which are carried out by Afghan engineers and workers.
