Wild animals attack livestock in Helmand overnight

LASHKARGAH: Wild animals such as hyenas and wolves have attacked and torn domestic cattle apart due to the recent heavy snowfall and chilly weather, in Washir district of the country’s southern Helmand province, local livestock owners complained the other day.
“Domestic animals are torn apart and eaten by hyenas, wolves and other wild animals during the night,” Abdul Bari, a livestock owner told media.
“Wolves, hyenas and other wild animals often sneak into our village overnight, attack, kill and eat our cattle for food,” Bari said.
According to him, wild animals have killed 15 domestic animals and injured 32 others in Washir district of the province, where, 50 others are still missing.
Another local, Baran who owned 200 domestic animals said that only 100 of his livestock survived the wild animals’ attacks.
Another local on condition of anonymity, urged the Islamic Emirate for supporting the villagers by providing weapons, so that they can guard their villages during the night to protect their livestock against the wilds’ overnight attack. Washir district chief has also confirmed the incident and said that some security personnel have been deployed to patrol certain areas of the district, where threats from wild animals are critically felt.
