Wheat yields increased by 13 percent in current year

KABUL: Wheat har vests have in creased by 13 per cent compared to the previous year in the country, the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock said in a statement on Sunday. According to the figures of the Department of Statistics and Information of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, around 4.35 million metric tons of wheat have been produced in the country in the current solar year. “Over 3.80 million metric tons of wheat have been harvested from irrigated land and 548,000 metric tons of wheat have been harvested from rainfed land, which shows a 13 percent increase compared to the previous year,” the statement said, while the wheat harvest had been predicted 6.62 million metric tons. Wheat was cultivated on more than 2 million acres of land during the past year, of which 1.34 million acres were irrigated lands and 680,000 acres were rainfed lands, the statement quoted.
