We should not be influenced by foreign media, western propaganda, Deputy PM

KABUL: Deputy Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan for Political Affairs Mawlavi Abdul Kabir met with a number of media people, journalists and political experts during an Iftar banquet last night, his office said in a statement. In the meeting held in Sapidar Palace, officials of foreign and local media, journalists and political experts shared their views and suggestions in different fields with the Deputy Prime Minister, according to the statement. They likened media to a bridge filling gaps between the government and the nation and that they were trying to convey the voice of the people to the government and the world. They also expressed pleasure over the Islamic Emirate cooperation with the media and addressing their problems and emphasized that such meetings should be held repeatedly with media persons in order to expand coop eration and reduce problems. “We are correcting the criticism and want the Afghan media to be strengthened,” they said adding that the people of Afghanistan were tired of war and wanted no longer bloodshed in their country. Deputy PM Mawlavi Abdul Kabir thanked journalists and media activists for always raising the voice of the people and criticize the shortcomings. “We consider the media and political experts as our colleagues and we assure all journalists that the IEA sees the media as a bridge between the government and the nation and works to strengthen them,” the statement quoted Deputy PM as saying. “The media and civil society activists should present the true image of Afghanistan to the people and the world and prevent false propaganda,” he advised. “We are happy that you are giving us good advice and stating all the facts, by doing this, the shortcomings will be amended and the government institutions will provide better services to the people,” he said. “Strengthening the Afghan media is for the benefit of society and the best service is public awareness that reflects the facts through the media,” the statement quoted Deputy PM as saying. Mawlavi Kabir went on as saying: “We should not be influenced by some biased foreign media and Western propaganda, maintain our independence and publish the realities of the society with a national and Islamic spirit.” He asked political experts and media outlets to share their opinions, suggestions and criticisms with him. At the end, the deputy Prime Minister referred to the media as the arm of the Islamic Emirate and said without strong media, society will be incomplete. The Kabul Times
