KABUL: Water has been released to the Dahla Dam in the country’s southern province of Kandahar, a statement from the provincial department of energy and water said the other day.
“Farmers in the province used to irrigate their lands via drilling deep into the ground to make wells, but the price of each litter of diesel has reached to 120 Afghanis,” said the department in a statement adding that no one can afford it. This was not clear how long the water flow will take, but it is estimated that the dam will not fill beyond 15 days of continued water flow.
According to the statement, the Dahla Dam water is expected to irrigate lands in Kandahar provincial center and all the districts, but as it seen the water will not reach areas other than Arghandab and Daman districts. The Kabul Times
