VP calls on ANDSF institutions to protect civilians in Uruzgan

VP Danesh addressing a ceremony on the occasion of World Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists

KABUL: Second Vice President Sarwar Danesh in reaction to organized attack of Taliban on innocent civilians in Khas Uruzgan district of Uruzgan has said no step has been taken so far by local government and the country’s security organs from capital for defending the local people in the district and prevention of the Taliban attacks.
Stating that problems of the country’s security forces were perceivable, second vice president stressed that the country’s national defense and security forces were obliged to quick respond and rash to help innocent civilians in the district.
Second vice president prayed for the soul of martyrs of the people in Uruzgan, asking the local people not to surrender to cruelties of the attackers and bravery defend their people. He also prayed for the soul of martyrs of recent incident in Farah and called the incident as big loss.
Speaking in an event held on the occasion of World Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, second vice president said that presence of the culture of impunity caused that perpetrators of violence against journalists were not submitted to justice, adding that Afghanistan government based on international conventions was committed and tasked to maintaining employment safety of journalists.
He stressed that protection of freedom of expression and maintaining security of journalists and open media were significant for the government of Afghanistan.
In the event, Tadamichi Yamamoto, United Nations General Secretary’s Special Envoy to Afghanistan and head of United Nations Assistance Mission for Afghanistan (UNAMA), also spoke and stressed on cooperation of the international community and its support from freedom of expression in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, deputy minister of publication affairs for information and culture Fazil Sancharaki briefed related to latest tolls of violence incidents against journalists, saying that 14 journalists and media personnel have been martyred during the current year in Afghanistan.
