Unity of Muslim Ummah

Unity and harmony forms the basis and foundation of a sound society in the religion of Islam. Such unity, if gained, cannot only assure the path towards prosperity, fortune and development within our country, Afghanistan, but it could also determine the freedom, independence and meaningful presence in the world of Muslim nation. The believers of Islam believe in one God; they share the same slogan – there is no god, but Allah; the prophet they have faith in is Mohammad (PBUH); Muslims across the world love the only book, Holy Quran; they face the same direction, Qiblah, when engaged in ritual prayers; they have one azan to invite people to the prayer; their fasting in the month of Ramadan is also same; the pilgrims aggregate in the Masjid-ul-Haram, Kaaba and perform the Abrahamic ritual, Hajj. Undoubtedly, all of these acts can beautifully unite the hearts and enliven the soul of Islamic unity which is the foundation to the greatness of Muslim Ummah.
In this perspective, if we look at the history of revelation of the holy Quran, it can be seen that the Quran was revealed in a society which due to their tribal nature of lifestyle were not ruled by any government. There was just tribal and blood relations between them, and they were ruled by values of the time. A part of their land was governed by two great (in land) empires of Persia and Rome, which had intensified the disunion between tribes and people.
Their hearts were deeply darkened with the hatred for other tribes and a small conflict was enough to ignite the fire of long lasting war and bloodshed. However, it was the religion of Islam that changed the scattered and hating nations, tribes and races into one united nation and gave them the wisdom to live and let others live in peace.
Islam, from the day first, was strongly against the tribal system, which is the root to all conflicts. Islam fought the system and introduced faith in unique God as the basis for any kind of values. Hence, shared belief became the root and basis of a society, and called Muslims as brothers.
It is based on the fact that the holy Quran says, “the believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers.”
While Islam terms them to be a single entity (Muslim Ummah), it emphasizes saying, “Surely, this nation of yours is a single nation and I am your Lord. So fear Me.”
In addition, Islam invites Muslims to empathy and solidarity. It explains that the kindness, humanity and love are the blessings given to Muslims and that they should appreciate them and realize their importance for a prosperous life as the holy Quran mentions, “And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. And remember the favor of Allah upon you – when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favor, brothers. And you were on the edge of a pit of the Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses that you may be guided.”
In the verse above, the holy Quran has discussed the very nature and point of unity and battle against any kind of disunion and asks Muslims to hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together.
Even though, all of us, Afghans, are Muslims and followers of the holy prophet Mohammad (PBUH), it would be better to follow the teachings of Islam and Quran to our best, abstain from the vices the God has mentioned in its sacred book and be thankful for the blessing of freedom and independence as well as pray for the strength and stability of Islamic system in the country. Also, we should sincerely make efforts for the stability of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA). The four decades, especially the last two decades, of Afghan people are not hidden from the eyes of United Nations and international community.
Instead, it was a hard realization that was imposed on the innocent people of Afghanistan. However, as now by the grace of God and sacrifices of the valiant and brave people, Afghanistan has gained its dignity, honor and freedom as an independent country. For its people, the opportunity to work and serve their country has also been emerged and they should not miss this golden opportunity, but have to work with the government for the betterment and development of the country.
Given the above perspective, it is time to hold firmly the rope of Allah and find ways for greater unity among Afghan nation proving to the world that the Afghan nation, as it has sacrificed many and many times to protect and safeguard the national and Islamic values and political freedom, can do their best for the development and economic growth of the country. In addition, the nation should try hard to stabilize the security and take the country to self-reliance.
With these efforts, the nation would not only be prosperous in this world, but it can help them achieve the will of God and not be shameful in front of Allah on the day of resurrection.
It is right that the destructive hands and enemies of Islam and Afghanistan are trying to scatter and weaken the Islamic Ummah and residents of this land. It should not be forgotten, however, that God has sent its message through his prophet, and by following it we can achieve felicity both in this and after world. On the other hand, intra-Afghan issues and conflicts can also be resolved through dialogue and understanding.
