UNICEF to build 24 clean water reservoirs in Uruzgan

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in a statement, announced the other day that it will build 24 reservoirs of clean water in the country’s southern province of Uruzgan, providing 50 percent of people with safe drinking water Children’s Support Fund/ UNICEF officials who came to Uruzgan assured the people that by building 24 reservoirs of clean water in this province, 50 percent of people will have access to clean water. During his visit to Uruzgan, the head of UNICEF southern provinces, Prances Botichi, said at the opening ceremony of a clean water reservoir worth 6 million Afghanis, that all 24 clean water supply reservoirs will be built this year, providing 50 percent of people with clean drinking water in the province level, according to the statement. “Construction work on 6 water supply networks will be started in the first phase of the plan and by the end of the current year all 24 water supplying projects will be constructed in the province,” the statement quoted Botichi as saying. Meanwhile, Abdul Ghani Bilal, head of Uruzgan Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department, said that hisled department is trying to convince the institutions to launch water supply projects in the province. According to the report of the United Nations Children’s Fund, six months ago, nearly 80 percent of people in the province did not have access to clean water. On the other hand, the residents of Uruzgan welcomed the measure and requested the relevant organs to pay serious attention in the implementation of water supply projects in the province.
