UNHCR’s Kelly T. Clements assures of work resumption in Afghanistan

KABUL: The United Nations Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees Kelly T. Clements and her accompanying delegation met with Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs Mawlavi Abdul Kabir, the other day, a statement from his office said.
In the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister said the Islamic Emirate supports refugees and returnees as well protect the human rights of the entire Afghan people, the statement quoted.
“A proper ground has now provided for the Afghan refugees to return home and assistances are distributed among them transparently,” assured the deputy prime minister.
The deputy UNHCR Kelly T. Clements assured that the organization can resume its operation for the refugees in the remote areas of the country, as security is now ensured countrywide.
“Afghanistan is our priority. We are committed to keep our assistance continue for the country,” she assured.
According to another report, she also met with Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Shir Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, at the Storay Palace the other day.
He said the Islamic Emirate intended to prevent further migration and wanted Afghan refugees to repatriate to the country.
He added the decades of war, unemployment and restrictions on banking system and low economy of the people are among the reasons behind further migration.
“The government needs the international community’s support to address the challenges facing by refugees,” said Stanekzai
He also asked for UNHCR’s support in ensuring the global attention to the migration issue in the hosting countries as well as issues relating to the Afghan refugees’ documents and travel.
UN Deputy High Commissioner said that the UNHCR was working to prepare a proper environment for the resettlement of IDPs and refugees and plans to expand its operations and increase its staff to reach this goal.
She added that the issues of refugees will be raised with the relevant authorities during her travel to the hosting countries as well as in the tripartite meetings on them. Deputy Foreign Minister also, assured the delegation to pave the ground for taking necessary measures for smooth UNHCR’s operations.
