Tourists’ visit to Herat rising, after firm security

HERAT CITY: Thousands of tourists have recently visited historical sites in the country’s western Herat province, an official said the other day.
Wahidulah Sultani, the director of tourism of Herat province, as quoted by Pajhwok Afghan News said that during the last week 25,000 tourists visited the historical mosque while 24,000 more tourists visited Ikhtiaruddin Citadel, the minarets and other famous heritage sites of Herat province.
Experts say historical monuments of Herat province are very important for tourism and can play a vital role in the economic growth of the city.
Maulana Naeemulhaq Haqqani, provincial director of information and culture, said the local administration was trying to repair historical sites and monuments to attract national and international tourists.
