Thousands of tourists visited Herat historical sites, official

KABUL: As many as 12,000 domestic and foreign tourists have visited the historical sites of the country’s eastern province of Herat, over the last six months, a provincial official said Friday.
Provincial Director of Information and Culture of Herat, Mawlana Nayemul Haq Haqqani,
said that in the first six months of the current year, current year, 11,000 domestic tourists and 1,000 foreign tourists have visited the historical sites and attractions of the province.
Mawlana Haqqani says that a number of historic monuments in Herat are under restoration to create
an environment to attract tourists.
The reason behind increase in the number of tourists has been said sure security, according to Haqqani.
On the other hand, officials for department of protection and preservation of historical monuments
say that this year, good revenues have been obtained from the historical monuments.
Zalmi Safa, head of historical records of Herat provincial directorate of Information and Culture, said that for the restoration of historical monuments to attract tourists, we need support and enough cooperation from the central government.
