Thousands of Afghans return home from Iran, Pakistan, ministry

KABUL: At least 3,000 Afghan refugees returned from Iran and Pakistan to the country in the past day, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said in a statement the other day. About 1,477 Afghan immigrants returned from Iran via the Islam Qala border crossing, of which 140 individuals have been introduced to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to receive necessary assistance, the statement said, adding that 40 orphaned children were referred to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to facilitate family reunification. Also, 2,205 Afghan migrants returned to the country via the Torkham port and have been introduced to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to receive assistance.
