The value of politeness in Islamic teachings

Islam’s emphasis on observing social etiquette. Among the valuable teachings of Islam, the emphasis on having good character shines like a golden thread. Islam teaches its followers to always follow the pillars of faith, and embody good behavior in interacting with others. This emphasis on good behavior serves as a cornerstone for strengthening harmony in societies and fostering the spirit of compassion and understanding among people. Since the basic axis of Islamic teachings is the observance of etiquette, etiquette guides Muslims in interacting with fellow human beings. And it promotes kindness, respect and empathy among them. As Prophet Mohammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) displayed the highest standards of politeness and showed compassion and forgiveness even in the face of difficulties. His teachings emphasize the importance of treating others with dignity and fairness, regardless of their background or beliefs. Since the basis of Islamic ethics is based on the principle of benevolence and excellence in behavior, it encourages Muslims to strive for excellence in all aspects of their lives, including interactions with others. The Quran advises the believers to “repel evil with better” as it says in verse 41:34 of Surah Faslat: “Good and evil are never the same in the world…It emphasizes kindness and generosity in resolving conflicts and building bridges of understanding. Indeed, one of the most valuable values of Islam is the concept of brotherhood in faith, which orders Muslims to support each other in times of need. Following this, social cohesion will be created and bonds of love and compassion will be strengthened, which transcends social barriers and differences. Islam also places great emphasis on respecting the rights of neighbors, regardless of their religious affiliation. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) emphasized the importance of kindness and caring for neighbors and said: “He who believes in Allah and the Day of Resurrection should be generous to his neighbor” (Sahih Bukhari). This teaching emphasizes the importance of fostering positive relationships with those who live in our vicinity, regardless of their religious background. Basically, accepting good behavior in Islam is not just a matter of personal virtue; it is a collective effort to create communities characterized by harmony, compassion and mutual respect. By embodying the teachings of courtesy, benevolence and brotherhood, Muslims can help create a more inclusive and cohesive society, where the bonds of humanity unite people across diverse backgrounds and beliefs. On the other hand, in Islam, politeness has been raised as one of the very important moral and cultural pillars. Islam emphasizes on kindness, love, kindness and respect for others and also helps to educate people for decent and polite behavior. As we strive to maintain good principles in our daily lives, let us remember the words of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH): “The best of you are those who have the best morals and character” (Sunan Abu Dawud). May we embody these noble virtues in our interactions with others and may our behavior be a beacon of light and illuminate the way to a more just and kind world. Mustafa Hashami
