The month of Sha’ban and the night of forgiveness

Part II

Some habits of Allah’s Messenger in the month of Sha’ban: Ayesha, the mother of the Believers has narrated and said: “I have not seen the Messenger of Allah fast a full month but Ramadan, and I have not seen him observing fasting in a month more than Sha’ban.” This means the Messenger of Allah used to observe fast a full month of the holy month of Ramadan and most days of the month of Sha’ban not a full month of the Sha’ban. In another Hadith, Ibn Abas has narrated and said: “The Messenger of Allah observed fast a full month of the month of Ramadan, but he never used to fast a full month of other months and when he started to observe fast, one would thought that he would never stop and when he stopped fasting, one would thought that he would not observe it. The habit of Ayesha (may Allah be pleased with her) in the month of Sha’ban: It was mentioned that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) used to observe most fasts in the month of Sha’ban; therefore, Ayesha, the mother of Believers (May Allah be please with her) also used to observe fast in the month of Sha’ban. She observed those fasts which she broke during her monthly period in Ramadan. When both the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) and Ayesha (may Allah be pleased with her) were observing fast, there was no fear of bothering each other. This is a great lesson to the Ummah’s sisters and mothers how they can take care of their husbands. Ulamas says that one of the rights of a husband is that the wife shall not observe the Sunnah fasting without his permission. If she does, so she will be hungry and thirsty and might deny her husband sexual pleasure, while the woman should not deny her husband sexual pleasure for no genuine reason. Ayesha, the mother of the Believers narrated: “I used to observe fast of those days I broke during the month of Ramadan in the month of Sha’ban until the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) passed away. The night of forgiveness ‘Shab-e-Barat’ Narrated by Ayesha (may Allah be pleased with her) I missed Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) during the night and found him in alBaqi’. He said: Were you afraid that Allah and His Messenger would deal unjustly with you? I said: Allah’s Messenger, I thought that you had gone to some of your other wives. He (the Prophet) said: Verily Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, comes down to the heaven of the world in “the middle night of Sha’ban” and forgives sins even more abundant than the hair of the goats of Kalb. In another Hadith: Narrated by Abdullah Ibn Amr Ibn al-’As the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said, Allah, the Exalted and Glorious looks down on “the middle night of Sha’ban” and forgives all His creation except two people, the mushahin and the murderer.
