Sweden provides $ 7.2 million to Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund

The United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports that Sweden has donated 70 million Kronor (US $ 7.2 million) to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund for the current year.
According to OCHA, Sweden is the third largest donor to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF) and has contributed a total of $ 82.2 million since 2014. OAHA says that supporting Afghanistan on regular basis will save the lives of people in need in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, large numbers of needy Afghans are still waiting for help, queuing up at the bakeries to get a loaf of bread daily.
The citizens told the Kabul Times in an interview that they had no bread and had to gather next to the bakeries so that they are helped to have bread by those who buy it.
Latif, one of the families’ members, says he has been waiting since noon to get a loaf of bread. He said that the rich people have promised to distribute them 5 to 10 loaves of bread daily. He called on the government of the Islamic Emirate to assign the Kabul municipality to make a regular plan and distribute dry bread to the needy people daily, because people strive to find a loaf to survive.
In one of the bakeries in Kabul city, a number of needy families are waiting for more help. In this bakery, most of which are women, said that their compatriots are still helping them here but they also call upon the Islamic Emirate government to provide them donated Humanitarian Fund for the deserving People of Afghanistan through a proper plan. They believe that in the past, during the coronavirus in Afghanistan, the municipality distributed dry bread to the people, and a large number of poor families benefited from that program. They hope that the government of the Islamic Emirate will do the same by helping the families living below the poverty line.
According to the report of OCHA, Sweden contributed 20 million kronor ($ 2.3 million) to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund in October last year.
Meanwhile, based on report of the World Bank, Afghanistan is in a daring economic situation. The report says that in the last four months of 2021, after the return of the Islamic Emirate government in Afghanistan, the per capita national income in the country has decreased by one to three.
Azerakhsh Hafezi, a member of the board of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment, explained the per capita national income: “Per capita income is the total gross national income divided by the number of people or population of a country, regardless of who earns how much”.
According to the World Bank, Afghanistan’s economic isolation and the country’s political crisis in August have led the country to poverty.
Tobias Hak, a senior World Bank official in Afghanistan, shared the World Bank report on Afghanistan with reporters after the Islamic Emirate came to power. He said Afghanistan is a poor country in the world and its economy is still deteriorating.
A new World Bank report states that about 37 percent of Afghans do not have enough money to buy food, and 33 percent who can only afford food cannot buy anything else. The bank predicts that if the situation continues like this, Afghanistan’s economic decline will reach 34% from 2020 to the end of 2022.
