Special women handicrafts market opened in Badghis

QALA-I-NAW: A bazaar, special for women’s handicrafts has been opened in the country’s western Badghis province, an organizer said Monday. Entrepreneur women in northwestern Badghis province have demanded support for their businesses during the launching of a special women’s bazaar in the province. The bazaar was inaugurated on Sunday and would be open for three days. Atiah Tokhi, in charge of the women’s market in Qala-i-Naw, said the market was opened by the UNDP in coordination with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to support women handicrafts and other products. Tokhi said six more womenspecific markets would be opened in Qala-i-Naw and two more in the districts. She termed the opening of such markets effective and said: “It is effective and it can create harmony between women outside the market and inside the market, and due to the increase in the price of handicrafts, their products should be introduced to foreign markets as well.” She asked the government to create a suitable market in different parts of the country for the products produced by women entrepreneurs. Najiba, another entrepreneur, termed the opening of such markets effective and demanded more support in this regard. She said the government should create more market opportunities so that women entrepreneurs could sell their products. Matiullah Muttaqi, director of Information and Cultural assured entrepreneur women of the government’s full support and added that efforts were underway to explore more markets for women entrepreneurs. “The Islamic Emirate strives to provide opportunities for women activities and support them,” he said. He said after the takeover of the IEA it was the first time that a special bazaar was launched for women in Badghis. The Kabul TImes
