Snowfall destroys dozens of houses in Panjshir, Kapisa

BAZARAK/ MAHMOOD RAQI: The recent snowfall has destroyed 52 residential houses in Kapisa and Panjshir provinces of the country. Director of Information and Culture Department of Panjshir Nasratullah Malikzada, in a statement the other day, said the recent heavy snowfall destroyed ten houses and killed 100 cattle in Shatal, Rukha and Hesai-Awal districts of the province. Malikzada said there were no human casualties in these incidents. The departments of natural disaster, rural rehabilitation and development and the Afghan Red Crescent Society have been instructed to assist the affected families in the province, Malikzada added. Separately, about 42 houses have been partially destroyed in Kapisa province in snow and rainrelated incidents. Hanifullah Hussaini, an official of the Natural Disaster Management Authority, said preliminary information suggested eight houses had been destroyed in Mahmood Raqi, five in Hesa-iAwal Kohistan, twelve in Hesa-iDoem Kohistan, six in Koh Band, four in Nijrab and two in Tagab districts. He said one person was wounded as a result of a roof collapse incident in Jalokhel village of Tagab district. According to reports, more than 20 people have been killed and 30 others wounded in the recent snowfall and freezing weather in the country. The Kabul Times
