KABUL: A delegation of Afghanistan Railway Authority (ARA) and the Iranian Railway Authorities discussed the resumption of transportation of cargo and passenger to the Herat-Khawaf railway, Bakhtar News Agency said the other day.
Mullah Bakht-ul-Rahman Sharafat head of Afghan Railway Department (ARD) led the Afghan side delegation, according to the agency.
The Khawaf-Herat railway is a project which will connect Iran via Afghanistan to China.
During a meeting the two sides discussed the resumption of work on the third phase of Khawaf-Herat railway, according to the agency.
The source said that the Iranian side assured of its preparation to resume work on the remaining part of the railway to use the route for transportation purpose.
Meanwhile, the ARA head emphasized on the continuation of such meetings in the future for better coordination on the railway construction process, according to the agency.
Iranian Urban Affairs Minister Rustam Qasemi who led his Iranian side delegation to complete work on the remaining part of the Herat-Khawaf railway before the arrival of winter.
Herat-Khawaf is a standard railway that connects Khawaf in Iran to the Herat province of Afghanistan. The railway is divided into four phases; two of them are in Iran and the rest in Afghanistan.
