Reopening girls schools to be also discussed in Ulama assembly in Kabul

It is determined that Afghanistan Ulama Jirga is going to be held today ‘Thursday’ at Loya Jirga Hall in Kabul.
Three representatives mostly religious figures and a dignitary have been selected by military and civil institutions of the Islamic Emirate to participate in the Jirga.
Besides, two dignitaries and a religious cleric from each city district along with head, deputy and three members of each province’s ulama council have been selected and introduced to participate in the assembly. The number of participants of the jirga will reach to 3,000 and it will continue for three straight days. The Islamic Emirate’s Spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said that the Islamic Emirate’s leadership decided to hold the gathering following the call of many scholars to convene such a gathering.
“A large number of religious scholars called on the leadership of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan on holding a gathering,” the IEA spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said in a tweet.
“The leadership of the Islamic Emirate also accepted their request and a large gathering of scholars will be held in Kabul today. From each province and district, a large number of religious scholars and tribal leaders will participate.” It is determined that the country’s ulamas will also decide on reopening or keeping closed girls schools at the gathering.
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has repeatedly said they are working on a mechanism for reopening of the girls schools in the country. Mawlavi Abdul Hadi Hamad, a religious scholar from Kandahar, by pointing to the ulama’s great assembly in Kabul has told media that the gathering will possibly discuss on current IEA system. “It seems it will be a consultative gathering. As far as I know and have talked to the people, all say they’re accepting the system as there’s no alternative for the current system,” Mawlavi Hamad said, adding that some suggestions might be raised for the amendment within the system.
Jirga is considered as the historic tradition of the people of Afghanistan and is held for the solution of big disputes and decisions in the country.
The Jirga has its special position in the country’s modern history and its decisions are executed and implemented. During the past long history, the country’s leaders have invited Loya Jirga to declare their government’s great policies or solve disputes in the country.

Basically, holding Jirgas in Afghanistan is for the solution of disputes and reaching a resolution; therefore, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) leadership by holding the great assembly is trying to find solutions for problems.
So far the agenda of this Jirga has not been announced officially it is reported that a number of issues will be discussed including that pertaining to matters of national importance, and maybe the issue of reopening girls’ schools in the country.
Historically, a Loya Jirga has been convened in order to elect a new head of state, approve a new constitution or resolve critical issues. Loya jirgas have reportedly been organized since the rise to power of the Hotak dynasty in the early 18th century.
