Remarks by Spokesperson of IEA-MoFA concerning conclusion of former Afghan Consul General’s mission in Mashhad, Iran

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hereby announces the conclusion of the mission of Mr. Abdul Jaber Ansar, the former Consul General of Afghanistan in Mashhad, Islamic Republic of Iran. Mr. Ansar’s tenure, which spanned over five years, came to an end, as per the directive of the Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, and he has been recalled to the central office, said a statement of the spokesman of the foreign ministry of the IEA. In accordance with the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic and Consular Affairs, as well as the domestic laws of the countries, the termination and return of diplomatic representatives is a customary practice. Following the conclusion of the mission, the former officer’s signature and seal no longer hold validity. He is required to surrender his diplomatic credentials to the relevant authorities of the host country, thereby forfeiting his diplomatic privileges and immunities. To ensure uninterrupted provision of timely services to clients, an appointed diplomat from the consulate will oversee its operations until the arrival of a new diplomat entrusted with the consulate’s responsibilities. It is regrettable that Mr. Ansar, after the conclusion of his duty, engaged in unauthorized actions that interfered with the administration’s affairs in a non-transparent manner. Such conduct has had an adverse impact on the consular services provided to businessmen and Afghan residents. Consequently, the former Consul General’s signature and seal are deemed invalid.
