Refugees should not be used for political purposes, Mawlavi Kabir

KABUL: The Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs Mawlavi Abdul Kabir, in a meeting, with Mr. Indrika Ratwatte, the Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan with the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), Resident and Hu manitarian Coordinator, said the refugee issues should not be used for political purposes. Expressing concerns over the beginning of the second phase of Afghan immigrants expelling by the Pakistani government, Mawlavi Kabir said that the refugees should not be used for political purposes and enough time should be given for Afghan refugees to return to their country, according to a statement from Arg the other day. Mawlavi Kabir said that deporting Afghan refugees by the Pakistani government will affect the aid delivery process and the human condition in the current situation in the country. Calling the behavior of the Pakistani government with Afghan refugees improper, Indrika Ratwatte said the move is a big obstacle in delivering humanitarian assistance, the statement said. Ratwatte emphasized the dialogue between Kabul and Islamabad regarding refugees and said that he would travel to Pakistan and discuss the Afghan immigrants’ issues with the officials of that country in the near future. Praising the cooperation of the Islamic Emirate with the aid agencies in the delivery of humanitarian aid to millions of Afghans, Ratwatte assured the continuation of humanitarian assistance for needy Afghans in the future. “In addition to requesting 3 billion U.S. dollars from donor countries to deliver humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, they are also considering asking for two billion dollars in the field of capacity building in the country,” the statement quoted Ratwatte as saying. He also appreciated the efforts of the Islamic Emirate regarding the initiation of the CASA 1000 regional project and assured that he supports investments in Afghanistan. Furthermore, Mawlavi Kabir appreciated the humanitarian assistance of UNAMA and other aid agencies to Afghanistan and said due to several continued wars and consecutive droughts, Afghans need cooperation in the fields of human, development and capacity building. The deputy PM Mawlavi Kabir according to the statement, went on as saying that with the takeover of the country by the Islamic Emirate, countrywide security has been ensured, corruption, cultivation and trafficking of narcotics have been eliminated and a suitable environment for investment has been provided than ever before in the country. Mawlavi Kabir asked the Asian Development Bank and other institutions to complete their half-finished projects in Afghanistan. Hajji Amanullah
