Recent flash floods have resulted in killing dozens of people and destroyed agricultural fields and residential houses in various parts of the country. Officials have estimated that hundreds cattle heads have been lost to rains and floods this season.
Officials for the state ministry for natural disaster management say unfortunately a large number of people have been affected by flash floods in the past one month, adding that the Islamic Emirate has provided the recent flood and earthquake-hit families, but these aids are insufficient.
The officials asked the international community to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan, particularly those hit by recent floods in the country.
“Due to recent flooding, 194 people have been martyred and 260 others wounded. Besides, 12,020 residential houses have been destroyed,” said Mawlavi Sharafuddin Muslim, deputy minister of disaster management.
He estimated that 9,000 cattle heads have been lost to rains and floods in various parts of the country. Pointing to aid to the flood-affected people, deputy minister of disaster management said nearly 82,000 aid packages have been distributed to flood-affected families, adding that food and non-food items worth millions of afghanis have been distributed to flood-affected people in the country. Deputy Minister for state ministry of natural disaster management asked the international community to provide aid to the flood-affected people as well as provide assistance to the country to renovate the infrastructures that have been destroyed due to recent floods in the country.
He recalled of food and non-food items worth 9 million afghani provided by Jamil Qadiri Company for flood-affected families, and asked other companies to provide their aid to the people affected by recent flash floods in the country.
Meanwhile, acting minister of agriculture Mawlavi Ataullah by pointing to recent flooding in the country said that nearly 600,000 hectare of lands have been destroyed by recent flooding in the country. “Nearly 1,716,385 trees have been washed away due to recent flooding. Besides, nearly 29,327 cattle heads have been lost,” Mawlavi Ataullah said.
Also acting minister of water and energy Mawlavi Abdul Latif Mansour said that a large number of water dams and bridges have been destroyed due to recent flooding in the country. He also asked that thousands of dollars needed to reconstruct the damaged bridges and water dams affected by recent flooding in the country.
At the end, acting minister of public health, Dr. Qalandar Ebad by pointing to dispatching some mobile teams said that the health assistance of the MoPH includes ambulances, medical kits, and a mobile team of doctors to treat those wounded in recent floods.
