Recent floods cause human, financial losses in provinces

KABUL: Recent devastating floods claimed more than 70 lives and caused huge financial losses in some provinces of the country, the State Ministry for Disaster Management said in a statement Saturday. More than 70 people including women and children have been martyred and hundreds of others wounded as a result of devastating floods in Central Baghlan, Burka, and Nahrin districts, the statement said, adding hundreds of houses, thousands of acres of land and scores of bridges destroyed in the province. According to the statement, dozens of people have been martyred and wounded due to floods in Kohistan, Keshm, Tagab, and Teshkan districts of Badakhshan. Also, the floods blocked the transportation road of about 20,000 people in Teshkan district. Over the past two days, floods have also caused huge financial losses in Chaharsada and Murghab districts of Ghor province and two people including a child and an old man have disappeared. Accurate statistics on the casualties and damages caused by the floods have not yet been finalized, and the Ministry of Disaster Management has not yet commented. The Kabul Times
