Protection of entities, civil values govt. priority in peace talks, VP Danesh

KABUL: Deputy US ambassador to Kabul Ms. Karen Decker on Sunday met with Second Vice President Sarwar Danesh, during which she briefed him about recent peace talks progress held between the US and Taliban representatives, Bakhtar News Agency (BNA) reported.
During the meeting, both sides stressed on transparency in peace negotiations, delivering precise information to all stakeholders, particularly civil entities and Afghan people, BNA added.
VP Danesh stressed that protection of civil entities, political system, constitution, freedom of speech and human rights are the main demands of Afghans, adding a general consensus has already been formed in this regard.
He added, representing the people of Afghanistan, the government is decisive to restore lasting peace as it calls safeguarding achievements made over the last eighteen years its main priority.
Ms. Karen clarified that achievements made over the last years are the results of sacrifices made by the people of Afghanistan and international partners in war on terror and people’s concerns are understandable in this respect.
Likewise, VP Danesh stated that the people and government of Afghanistan as well as international partners agreed on achieving sustainable peace, stressing that peace process should be led by the people and government of Afghanistan.
