Acting Minister of Refugees and Repatriation Khalil Rahman Haqqani has met with Pakistan Charge d’ Affaires to Kabul Ubaid ul Rehman Nizamani here in Kabul.
According to the head of public affairs and spokesperson of the ministry of refugees and repatriation Mufti Abdul Mutalib Haqqani, in the meeting between acting minister of refugees and repatriation, problems of Afghan refugees in Pakistan and mistreatment of the Pakistani police with Afghan refugees in the respective
country have been discussed.
Pointing to good and friendly relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan, acting minister of refugees and repatriation said mistreatment of Afghan refugees by Pakistani police in Karachi and other cities of Pakistan could harm the relations between the two countries.
In the meeting, existing problems in issuing Pakistani visas to Afghans have been also discussed with the Pakistan Charge d’ Affaires.
The acting minister of refugees and repatriation has asked for bringing easiness in issuing visas for Afghans.
Acting minister of refugees and repatriation also stressed that problems of families living on either side of the border should be addressed and has also asked for addressing problems in opening bank accounts in both countries, issuing driver licenses and providing necessary facilities to the Afghan refugees living in refugee camps in Pakistan.
In the meeting, Pakistan Charge d’ Affaires to Afghanistan Ubaid ul Rehman Nizamani said that he has watched videos of the mistreatment of Afghan refugees by Pakistani police in Pakistan, adding that mistreatment of Afghan refugees could harm the relations between the two countries.
He assured that he would share the Afghan officials’ demands with his country’s officials in Islamabad. This comes amid of increasing incidents of mistreatment of Afghan refugees in different cities of Pakistan, especially in Sindh’s Karachi city. Previously, Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in a statement
had condemned the mistreatment of Afghan refugees in neighboring Pakistan, asking the Pakistan authorities for prevention of such incidents. Samiullah Momand
