President Ghani to address National Assembly’s extraordinary meeting tomorrow

The intensification of war and the stalled peace talks has made the Afghan government to concentrate on winning the war on the battlefields.

Recently, The Afghan government leadership has emphasized supporting the Afghan security forces, saying that the Taliban have no intention for peace.

Many Afghan parliamentarians saying that General Assembly’s extraordinary meeting will be held on Monday, 2 August 2021, at the request of the Afghan president Mohammad Ashraf Ghani.

According to some MPs, the president will talk about political and security changes, as well as to ask house representatives all across Afghanistan to support the Afghan security forces.

House representatives saying that the current situation in Afghanistan is sensitive and it requires a joint meeting between both executive and legislative branches of the government.

President Ghani to hold the extraordinary meeting at the time that clashes are ongoing in cities of Kandahar, Herat, Helmand’s Lashkargah, Ghazni, and Takhar’s Taliqan.

Meanwhile, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani attended a consultative meeting with prominent Afghan political and jihadi leaders, religious scholars, women, and civil society and youth representatives on Saturday, the Presidential Palace said.

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said that in this meeting, the participants “unanimously declared their unwavering support for Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

“These leaders also declared their full support for Afghan Security and Defense Forces in the presence of the country’s security leadership. While stressing the urgency for peace, all agreed that defending Afghanistan is our fundamental right,” President Ghani said.

A statement by the Presidential Palace reads that they agreed on efforts to an end to violence and achieve peace, defend the country, national sovereignty, national institutions, shared values, women’s rights and all other freedoms mentioned in the Constitution.

Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, head of the High Council for National Reconciliation, former jihadi leader Abdul Rab Rasul Sayyaf, former vice president Mohammad Karim Khalili, heads of security agencies and other officials had attended the meeting.
