President Ghani in London to discuss Afghanistan peace process

Afghanistan Presidential Palace in a statement said that President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on his three-day official visit to London would meet British officials to discuss Afghanistan peace process.
The country’s President on Sunday morning left Kabul for London, United Kingdom, at the head of a high-ranking delegation, the statement said.
Meanwhile, Shah Hussain Murtazavi, deputy spokesperson to President Ghani said that President Ghani’s visit to London was part of the implementation of his pledged he made in Peace Consultative Jirga.
“The objective of this visit is the expansion of bilateral relations between UK and Afghanistan. The country’s President will meet with the UK officials to discuss Afghanistan peace process. In peace Consultative Jirga, we’ve shown our domestic consensus regarding peace with the Taliban group,” Murtazavi said, adding that fortunately very good steps are underway to further create regional consensus regarding peace in the country.
In Peace Consultative Jirga, Afghanistan redlines have been debated in a resolution and currently efforts are underway for regional consensus which is part of pledges made by the country’s President in the Jirga. In regional and far regional level, positive stems are being formed in connection with peace in Afghanistan and national unity government hopes the country will finally reach peace. Recently, Germany has said it is preparing for an intra-Afghan dialogue the participants of which will be representatives of the Afghan government and members of the Taliban group. Chinese ambassador to Kabul in a meeting with Afghanistan National Security Advisor has also expressed his full readiness for holding a meeting in connection with Afghanistan peace. For the past few days, various countries have shown readiness to play role in Afghanistan peace process. But, what will UK, considered as the closest allies of US and has the highest number of troops in Afghanistan after the US, play role in Afghanistan peace process? Political changes in Afghanistan and the issue of war and peace have been always significant for the British government. Now that talks between US delegation led by Zalmay Khalilzad and Taliban negotiators have entered to new stage, hopes have increased for peace agreement. Meanwhile, the Afghan peace process led and owned by Afghans is the issue for which UK has always stressed. UK has close relations with leaders of Pakistan, a neighboring that has been always accused of supporting the Taliban group and supporting other insurgent groups fighting against Afghanistan government. In the meantime, role of UK in convincing Pakistan to bring the Taliban group in negotiating table is considered as key. The country should also exert pressure on Pakistan not to interfere in internal affairs of Afghanistan. For further creating regional consensus for Afghanistan peace process and counter terrorism in the region, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in 19th meeting Shonghai held on 14th of June in Kirghizstan also stressed on regional consensus in connection with Afghan peace process, saying that peace in the country will be beneficial to all the region and world.
