Precious stones smuggle attempt thwarted in Torkham border

KABUL: Police personnel have thwarted the smuggling of more than 1,000 kilograms of precious stones in the Torkham town of the country’s eastern Nangarhar province. Ahmad Wali Haqmal, spokesman for the Ministry of Finance, tweeted that the precious stones included 97.50 kilograms of lithium and 930 kilograms of nephrites. According to the spokesman, the security forces have frustrated the smuggling attempt in Torkham few days ago. However, he did not say where the precious stones, seized near the Durand Line, were being smuggled. The Kabul Times
