Potzel asks western countries to reopen embassies in Afghanistan, report

KABUL: Deputy Special Representative of the UN Special-General Markus Potzel has asked western countries for resumption of their work through opening their embassies in Afghanistan.
Earlier, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has called for the reopening of embassies in Kabul, for the improvement of relations with the international community.
The Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General Markus Potzel has said that his “appeal would be for more western states to be represented here again.”
Potzel made the remarks in an interview with the RND (Redaktions Netzwerk Deutschland), Tolonews, a private TV quoted.
He suggested that it was easier to assess the situation in Afghanistan when being present in the country.
Potzel added that it shouldn’t be forgotten that Germany and other Western nations also had interests in Afghanistan.
“Opening embassies does not have to go hand in hand with the recognition of the Taliban regime,” he said.
