Poppy on hundreds of acres of land destroyed, dozens arrested in provinces, ministry

KABUL: Poppy on 561 acres of land has been destroyed and 27 individuals arrested over various crimes in some provinces of the country, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said in a statement the other day. The counter-narcotics police personnel of the ministry in a series of anti-drugs operations have destroyed poppy on 108 acres of land in Darayeem, 131 acres of land in Argo, 60 acres of land in Baharak, 54 acres of land in Kishm districts of Badakhshan, and poppy on 133 acres of land in Faizabad the provincial capital, the statement said. Also, 29 individuals in connection with theft, murder, gambling and other crime, have been arrested in Kapisa, Balkh, Takhar, Samangan, Badghis, Paktika and Nangarhar provinces of the country, the statement further said. According to the statement, a weapons and ammunition cache has been discovered and seized in Ghor and Paktika provinces. The detainees have been taken to the judiciary organs for further investigation into their files. A few days ago, scores of people on charges of various crimes have been arrested in some provinces. The relevant police personnel of the ministry, are making efforts to crack down on the activities of criminal groups and destroy poppy crops nationwide. The Kabul Times
