Poppy on 200 acres of land destroyed, scores arrested in provinces, ministry

KABUL: Poppy on 200 acres of land has been destroyed and 25 individuals over various crimes arrested in some provinces of the country, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said in a statement Monday. The anti-narcotic and crime police personnel of the ministry during various clearance and counter-narcotics and crimes operations, have destroyed poppy on 200 acres of land in Tala Wa Barfak district of Baghlan and arrested 25 individuals on charges of theft, livestock and foodstuff trafficking, gambling and purchasing and trafficking of narcotics in Nimruz, Helmand, Takhar, Paktika and Nangarhar provinces of the country, the statement said. Also, a huge amount of vari ous types of drugs have been seized from them, the statement further said, adding that the arrestees have been taken to the relevant organs for further investigations into their files. The country’s National police personnel are making efforts to do their utmost to prevent the cultivation and trafficking of narcotics and crack down on the activities of smugglers and criminal groups across the country.
