Poppy in hundreds of acres of land destroyed, dozens arrested in provinces, ministry

KABUL: Poppy on 560 acres of land have been destroyed and 16 individuals over various crimes arrested in some provinces of the country in the past day, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said in a statement Tuesday. Following the anti-narcotics and crime operations by the relevant police personnel of the ministry, poppy on 560 acres of land have been destroyed and 16 people arrested in Laghman, Baghlan, Kapisa, Sar-e-Pul, Zabul, Herat, Samangan, Farah, Nimruz, Badakhshan and Daikundi provinces in the past day, the statement said. Also, a huge amount of various types of narcotics including 2,000 kilograms of hashish, 8,000 kilograms of lime, 5,168 kilograms of soda, 1,200 liters of acid, and 120 kilograms of opium, have been seized during the operations in the said provinces, the statement added. The detainees have been taken to the judiciary organs for further investigation into their files. With the resumption of power by the Islamic Emirate, cultivation and trafficking of narcotics have been banned by the leadership of the current system across the country. The Kabul Times
