Poppy cultivation decreased by 95% in Afghanistan, Thomas West

KABUL: Poppy cultivation has been decreased by 95 percent in Afghanistan, the Special Representative of the United States for Afghanistan Thomas West said on his X page Saturday. Based on the findings of the United Nations, drug cultivation has been decreased by 95 percent in the country, a move appreciated by the representatives of the countries in the UN-led Doha meeting on Afghanistan, he said, adding during the meeting discussions were made to support Afghan farmers and seek alternatives to drugs. West also pointed to the need for further coordination in the ground. Previously, the Special Representative of the European Union also acknowledged that the Islamic Emirate has made significant achievements in fighting against drugs. The Kabul Times
