Police arrest 6 allegedly drug traffickers in Herat

HERAT: Counterdrug police of the country’s western province of Herat have arrested six alleged drug traffickers and discovered 6 kg of illicit contraband from their possessions, said a statement of the provincial police department released Monday. The contraband, which include 1 kg heroin, 1kg opium poppy, 4 kg hashish and three pistols were recovered from the possession of the arrested individuals during operations on Sunday, the statement added. All the arrested men have been taken into custody for investigation, the statement added. Days earlier, police also discovered more than 2 tons of illicit drugs and an object used in manufacturing heroin in the northern Samangan province, with four suspects detained. The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate, in a decree issued in April last year, banned the cultivation of illegal crops including poppy, drug processing and drug trafficking. The Kabul Times
