Over 600 health centers to be created countrywide

Afghanistan Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has informed of planning to create more health centers to help people get access to health services in the country. A spokesperson to the Ministry of Public Health in an interview with The Kabul Times correspondent said that the ministry was working to create hundreds of health centers across the country so that all the people get access to health services. “A total of 290 health centers have been created in the country in the past 18 months,” said Dr. Sharafat Zaman, a spokesperson for the ministry of public health. He added that the Ministry of Public Health has also created a total of 500 mobile health units in areas where the people have not access to health services, saying that nearly 6,000 health workers have been deployed to address the problems of lack of medical staff in the country. According to the MoPH spokesperson, the country’s ministry of public health is determined to create new health centers in white areas so that those people living in remote villages get access to standard health services. Pointing to the ministry of public health’s plans in current year, Dr. Sharafat Zaman said that the country’s ministry of public health was planning to create 600 new health centers in different provinces, adding that the ministry was also planning that expand and provide more facilities to those health centers that have been already created in various parts of the country. Currently, there are 3,600 government hospitals and 2,500 private hospitals and health centers operating in the country. Continued development in diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive cases, including the construction of hundreds of health centers, launching several campaigns against polio, the development of health centers, supply of medicines and the recruitment of thousands of health personnel are a range of achievements of the ministry of public health. He said that 40 percent of the country’s areas have been deprived from health services during the previous government, stressing that the ministry of public health, therefore, planned to create 600 new health centers in the country. Last week, the World Health Organization in Afghanistan warned in its monthly report that if there is no effective response to the needs of health workers, the self-help activities of 14 million needy people will be limited. It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Public Health is working on the health system so that all the people have access to health centers. Besides, the Ministry of public health has made continued efforts to build the capacity of medics in health centers across the country. Samiullah
