Over 17,000 beggars rounded up in Kabul in few months

KABUL: The office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of the Islamic Emirate (IEA) has informed that 17,262 beggars have been rounded up only from Kabul city. According to information of the office of the deputy prime minister for economic affairs, 10,145 beggars are women of whom only 3,908 were deemed to be deserving, while the rest are professional beggars.
Moreover, there are 1,577 of the beggars are men. After the assessment, only 562 have been deemed as deserving, while the rest 1,015 have been identified as professional beggars. From among 17,262 beggars, there are 5,540 children of whom 2,230 are needy, while 3,250 are professional beggars.
The office of the deputy prime minister for economic affairs said that the beggars would be biometrically registered, adding that child beggars would be provided with education, and beggars who were unable to work would be provided with an allowance.
It is worth mentioning that rounding up beggars from Kabul city has been started following the order of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) Mullah Hebtullah Akhundzada. In a decree, the IEA supreme leader instructed the deputy prime minister to round up beggars in Kabul city and with the help of various organizations, provide them with shelter and employment opportunities.
