Onions yield reached to over 541,000 tons last year, MAIL

KABUL: The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) has said in a statement that 541,225 tons of onions had been harvested from more than 30,000 hectares of lands across the country last year. The ministry’s figures showed that about 541,225 tons of onions had been harvested all over the country in 1401. “Farmers across the country cultivated onions on nearly 30,470 hectares of land and among them, Nangarhar, Parwan, Farah, Takhar, Baghlan, Balkh, Kabul, Kandahar, Helmand and Nimroz provinces, with the largest amount of onion cultivation,” the statement quoted. The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock plans to activate small and large reserves in cooperation with the private sector of the country in onion production as well as storages so that they can provide their products duly, according to the statement. Earlier, the ministry announced the harvest of 58,930 tons of okra in 1401. The Kabul Times
