Olive yield increased by 50% in Nangarhar

JALALABAD: Olive yields have increased by 50 percent in the country’s eastern province of Nangarhar, the provincial Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Department said in a statement on Monday. Director of Nangarhar Canal Department Mawlavi Ghulam Rahman Kazim said the olive yields were 161 tons in the last year, while the yields are 300 tons in the current solar year, showing a 50 percent increase compared to the last year, according to the statement. “We plan to produce 30,000 liters of olive oil and 11 tons of pickled olives from these olives and present them to the market,” the statement quoted Mawlavi Kazim as saying. Kazim added more than 4,500 people including women are working directly and indirectly in the companies related to the canal department. The Kabul Times
