KANDAHAR: At least one child was killed and three others wounded as an exploded remnant of war went off in southern Kandahar province, early Wednesday morning, Haji Zaid provincial governor spokesman said.
The blast happened in Joy-e-Lahori area of Arghandab district, where four children, all members of a family were playing with an old, unexploded ordnance left over from the past wars, killing one of them and injuring three others, Zaid told media. The wounded children, some in critical condition, have been taken to the nearby healthcare facility, according to the official. Afghanistan is reportedly one of the heavily mine-contaminated countries of the world, where civilians, mostly children, are the main victims.
