The Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held the first ever meeting on Afghanistan, after the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) reached power on August 15.
Around 40 Islamic countries and organizations attended the meeting hosted by the neighboring country of Pakistan.
The main aim of the conference was to help prevent deterioration of Afghanistan economic and humanitarian situation, after the U.S.’s denial to unfreeze billions of dollars in financial assets of the country’s central bank.
Leading a high-ranking delegation, acting Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan Amir Khan Muttaqi attended the meeting held in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. The participants, in the extraordinary ministerial meeting, discussed some key issues on agenda including Afghanistan’s economic and humanitarian situations.
The country’s acting Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi spoke about the future relations of the country with the representatives of the participating countries.
In his historical speech at the meeting, Muttaqi said that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan was
a representative and responsible government of the Afghan nation.
“We, as a representative and responsible government of the Afghan people, consider human rights, women rights and participation by all capable Afghans from various regions our duty. We have done much in this regard and will continue to take further steps”.
Muttaqi quoted the recently announced effective decree by the supreme leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan about the rights of women that would prove instrumental in giving them their rights.
Generally, the most OIC’s conference discussion on Afghanistan, was productive and with relatively positive outcomes for Afghanistan.
The Islamic organization should do more for the Islamic Emirate in term of recognition, unfreezing assets, reopening of foreign countries’ embassies and resumption of all political missions in Afghanistan. The organization should now act as a frontrunner inter mediator between Afghanistan and other world countries in drawing all-out assistances for the Afghan people.
The OIC can also play key role in encouraging the international community to rebuild its normal relations with Afghanistan and help the poverty-stricken people stand on their feet.
