NUG leaders receive German foreign minister

KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani received German foreign minister Heiko Maas yesterday at presidential palace.
In the meeting, both sides discussed peace process, counter terrorism, elections, reforms and holding Peace Consultative Loya Jirga.
German foreign minister declared his country’s support from ANDSF, peace process and Afghanistan development projects, asserting that Germany would cooperate Afghanistan in all fields in particular development, lasting peace, elections and holding Peace Consultative Loya Jirga.
Praising Germany for its assistance to Afghanistan before and after the Bonn conference, President Ghani also expressed gratitude to the country for cooperation in development projects, training of ANP and role of the country’s forces in framework of RS mission in Afghanistan.
The country’s President added that timely holding presidential, provincial and district councils elections was in top priorities of the people and government of Afghanistan.
President Ghani also said that Peace Consultative Loya Jirga was for coherence of national consensus regarding peace in the country and would be soon held and the government and people of Afghanistan would continue their efforts towards maintaining lasting peace in the country.
According another report, chief executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah also met yesterday with German foreign affairs minister at Sapidar palace.
In the meeting attended also by acting minister of foreign affairs Salahuddin Rabbani, the country’s chief executive praised Germany for assistance to Afghanistan and sacrifices of the country’s for maintaining peace and security in Afghanistan and the region.
Chief executive considered Germany as close allies and friends of Afghanistan, asking the country’s for continued cooperation with Afghanistan.
In the meeting, German foreign affairs minister declared his country’s support from peace process, but stressed that peace talks would be only effective when Taliban entered to direct talks with Afghanistan government.
German foreign minister also reiterated his country’s preparation for helping Afghanistan in peace and stability only if they were asked for doing so.
