Norway reiterates support for Afghanistan post NATO withdrawal

KABUL: Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mohammad Haneef Atmar, spoke with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway, Ine Marie Eriksen Soreide, via video conference, a MoFA statement said yesterday.
At the outset, the Foreign Minister thanked Norway for its support and cooperation with Afghanistan over the past two decades and praised the Norwegian Prime Minister’s commitment at NATO Summit for continuing support to Afghanistan after the withdrawal of RS mission.
FM Atmar, as quoted by MoFA statement, also spoke about the new chapter in relations between the two countries, emphasizing the role of NATO and member states in safeguarding the achievements of the past two decades and achieving a political solution that can guarantee lasting peace and stability based on the free vote of the Afghan people.
The Norwegian Foreign Minister extended her condolences to the victims of the recent incidents and spoke about the expansion of bilateral relations and the results of the recent meeting of NATO leaders, the statement further said.
She shed light on Norway’s support for the Afghan peace process, preserving the achievements of the last two decades, and her vision for the success of the peace process, which she said would be addressed at the next UN Security Council meeting, as her country chairs Afghanistan’s affairs.
Norwegian FM also spoke about her country’s readiness to continue work at the hospital at Hamid Karzai International Airport and finalize the Strategic Partnership Agreement between the two countries.
