Afghanistan Ministry of Public Health has informed of opening a new emergency services section at the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Kabul. In the opening ceremony held last week on Tuesday, acting minister of public health Qalandar Ibad by pointing the importance of opening the new emergency services section at the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Kabul said the 20-bed emergency section has been budgeted by the World Health Organization with total amount of $400,000.
He said that the new emergency services section was still lacking some equipment, hoping that the section would be equipped soon so that medics in the section would not face with any shortage of medicines and equipment.
On the other hand, a representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) assured of providing necessary equipment for the new emergency services section. “We will continue our aid to—and cooperation with—the Infectious Diseases Hospital. We will provide equipment and other necessary items for the identification of infectious diseases,” said Mohammad Omar Mashal, who talked on behalf of WHO Afghanistan in the gathering. Expressing happiness about opening of the new emergency services section at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, local medics of the hospital said that they were happy over continue improvement in the quality of the hospital’s medical procedures. According to the World Health Organization officials, as there were no such facilities previously at the Infectious Diseases Hospital and the hospital would refer the patients to other hospitals; therefore, WHO considered it as its responsibility to cooperate in this regard.
It is worth mentioning that the country’s ministry of public health is working closely with the WHO and other health agencies as well as a number of countries to help build the capacity of Afghan local doctors working at the country’s government hospitals. Samiullah Momand
