KABUL: The country’s Ministry of Education has said the forthcoming academic year will start with both boys and girls included, Bakhtar News Agency reported.
The Ministry of Education is serious in reopening all schools including those of the girls and for the students’ convenience and safety, the same curriculum would be used, the ministry’s spokesman Aziz Ahmad Rayan told the state-run agency.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has said it will pay the salaries of Afghan schoolteachers. However, it gave no details.
Meantime, the ministry’s director of publication has said that efforts were underway to ask the UNICEF to pay the monthly salaries of teachers for 10 months, the agency quoted.
“This is a rumor. No teacher would be removed,” said Rayan in a query if there were positions beyond needs within the ministry,” the agency quoted the spokesman as saying.
He said efforts were underway to transfer the printed textbooks from other countries and a total of 7 million textbooks have been transferred from Dubai within the current month.
