Muttaqi urges world to recognize IEA

The 2nd meeting of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum was held with participation of foreign ministers of the world countries and representatives of international organizations in Turkey’s Antalya city.
From Afghanistan, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan Amir Khan Mattaqi, officially invited by the Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu participated in the forum held under the overarching theme of “Recoding Diplomacy.”
The main goal of the visit of the IEA foreign affairs minister to Turkey was to meet with the representatives of various countries to discuss current humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.
The IEA minister of foreign affairs delivered speech at Antalya’s Diplomatic Forum. In his speech, acting minister of foreign affairs Amir Khan Muttaqi urged the international community to recognize the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
“Afghanistan has a geography, a population and a government in place. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has fulfilled all the requirements to be recognized as a state. Then why it’s not being recognized?”, Muttaqi said, urging the international community to recognize the IEA and do their part in building a stable and self-reliant Afghanistan.
Muttaqi said efforts are underway to increase inclusivity in the government. He went on to point the foreign versions of the government, saying that they would not work.
“Foreign versions of the government and foreign ideology must not be imposed on Afghans. The former version of the government was tried but it did not succeed,” Muttaqi said.
He said that the Islamic Emirate has been attempting to rescue the Afghan economy and there have been several areas of progress, including government actions to prevent economic collapse. He suggested that a weak Afghan government would not benefit anyone, and, therefore, efforts to undermine the current government must stop.
Meanwhile, during his visit to Turkey, acting minister of foreign affairs Amir Khan Muttaqi and his accompanying delegation met the US special envoy for Afghanistan, Thomas West and Qatari minister of foreign affairs and discussed Afghanistan’s political and economic situation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has said that in the meeting between acting minister of foreign affairs Amir Khan Muttaqi and Thomas West, they have agreed that the $3.5 billion Afghan central bank’s assets freed from the U.S. court’s litigation should not be given to international humanitarian aid groups and should not be spent as humanitarian assistance. It is worth mentioning that in all previous meetings held in international and regional level, the most significant issues discussed between delegation of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and representatives of the other countries had been the issue of recognition of the IEA and releasing the foreign assets of Afghanistan central bank.
This has not been the first visit of acting Minister of Foreign Affairs to Turkey as the Minister of Foreign Affairs had previously visited the country last year in October. Amir Khan Muttaqi had also paid visits to Iran, Pakistan and Russia to hold negotiations on recognition of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has repeatedly delivered messages to the international community that the IEA wants positive, mutual and good relations with the world.
It is also worth mentioning that the forum brought together around 2,500 people, including 17 heads of state and government, more than 80 foreign ministers, representatives from some 39 international institutions, ambassadors, academics, civil society representatives, media and students. The participants observed 27 panels, four round table meetings and two events for youth during the forum. They addressed a wide range of topics in international relations under the overarching theme of “Recoding Diplomacy.”
