Muttaqi, UN official discuss 3rd UN-Doha upcoming meeting

KABUL: The Acting Foreign Minister Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, in a meeting with Rosemary DiCarlo, the Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs of the United Nations, discussed political issues and 3rd UN-Doha upcoming meeting on Afghanistan, the ministry said in a statement Sunday The meeting discussed a series of important issues including enhancing relations between Afghanistan and the United Nations, the 3rd Doha upcoming meeting with its agenda and composition about the country, the statement said, adding in the Doha meeting will be participated by the representatives of the member countries and international organizations, representatives of the World Bank and the Asian Bank. Addressing the meeting, Rosemary DiCarlo said that the upcoming meeting on Afghanistan will discuss financial and banking issues, the fight against drugs and alternative livelihoods for farmers, as well as climate change and its effects on Afghanistan. She added that they want to interact with the Islamic Emirate and will have clear discussions and talks about the demands and concerns of both sides in the meeting that is going to be held in the future in Doha, the capital of Qatar. Meanwhile, Mawlavi Muttaqi said that Afghanistan was one of the first member countries of the United Nations and also had active relations with this organization, and now the Islamic Emirate also has good relations with UNAMA in Kabul and wants further strengthen the ties in various fields. The foreign minister emphasized that the real representative of Afghanistan should represent the country in the United Nations-led meetings and the obstacles should be removed in the ground. “Afghanistan’s relations with neighboring and regional countries are flourishing and the main principle of the Emirate’s foreign policy is balance and economic orientation, which has good opportunities for all directions,” the statement quoted Muttaqi as saying. Muttaqi further said that discussion on the fight against drugs, financial and banking issues and the effects of climate change in Doha can be a good source of bilateral cooperation. The foreign minister according to the statement, went on as saying that the Islamic Emirate wants meaningful participation in Doha 2 and only ceremonial participation was not considered useful.
