More projects’ implementation helps reduce unemployment

The Islamic Emirate, since its resumption of power nearly three years ago, has long tried to launch various national projects to provide work for millions of unemployed youths and help the country reach self-sufficiency. Da Afghan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) has recently announced the start of a survey for the CASA-1000 power project route in Takhar and Baghlan provinces. The announcement is good news as the country is still facing problems in the energy sector and millions of people need access to work countrywide. Through CASA-1000, which is now, an ambitious renewable energy infrastructure construction project, up to 1,300 megawatts of surplus electricity would be transmitted from Central Asia and South Asia new energy infrastructure to the countries of the region. Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan of the Central Asian countries, have some of the world’s most abundant clean hydropower resources, while in the neighboring South Asia, Afghanistan and Pakistan struggle with chronic electricity shortages, especially during the sweltering summer months. Afghanistan, now, under the Islamic Emirate, is struggling to improve overall electricity access and through their cooperation on the mega project, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan and Tajikistan can access clean energy, build a shared regional electricity market, fight climate change and increase the standard of living for their populations. The route for the implementation of the CASA-1000 is now under survey in Baghlan and Kunduz provinces of the country to assess and facilitate its execution and discussions with local provincial officials are also underway. Work on the project, in the involved countries was almost completed, however, following the political change in Afghanistan, it was halted. Afghanistan section of the mega project costing 1.2 billion U.S. dollars, is 260 million U.S. dollars of which, 100 million U.S. dollars has not yet been paid by the World Bank. This is to be noted that implementation of the project is highly beneficial for Afghanistan as it can earn over 50 million U.S. dollars in annual transit fees as well as it can politically prove that the country, under the Islamic Emirate, is no longer isolated as it can be a good economic regional partner and is ready to commence other vital projects with its regional shareholders. Also, the implementation of the project will have a positive impact on job creation and improve the country’s economic trust in the region as well as reduce unemployment, create industrial zones and move the country towards self-sufficiency in the energy sector. The people of Afghanistan who have suffered long poverty welcome the move by the related organs to have started the survey of the CASA-1000 project in the two key provinces of Baghlan and Kunduz provinces, where thousands of people would be helped access work through the project’s execution. Other projects such Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan natural gas pipeline extension.
