KABUL: Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has informed of working on a plan to reconstruct the Kabul – Kandahar and Kandahar – Herat highways.
The ministry of public works in a suggesting plan is making effort to reconstruct the 900km Kabul – Kandahar and Kandahar – Herat road. The ministry is planning to implement the road reconstruction program through public and private partnership. The ministry has asked all interested domestic construction companies, national traders and investors to send their proposals for the reconstruction of each 100km Kabul – Kandahar and Kandahar – Herat road.
According to the plan, the budget for the reconstruction of the road will be provided by the private sector, which will later get its money via the road toll tax.
Currently, the journey from Kabul through Kandahar and Kandahar to Herat over Afghanistan’s major east-west route is a test of endurance with potholes, collapsed bridges and areas washed out by floods.
The journey takes long hours to get to Kandahar and then Herat.
